My Summer, Told By My Camera

The biggest thing that happened to me this summer was going to the Women's World Cup in Canada. I got to go to six games total, including the mind-blowing final.

All of the games I went to were in Vancouver at BC Place, so I got to spend a fair amount of time in the city. I had some delicious food, walked until my legs hurt and even did a little shopping, or at least window-shopping.

In Vancouver there's a friendly little island called Granville. It had great boutiques and a colorful market.

Sometime in between all the busy excitement, Dad and I found ourselves alone for an evening and so went out to our favorite pizza place– Veracci Pizza– that's just short drive away.

I didn't get together with my friends as much as I'd originally planned on, but whenever I did we had fun, usually at a beach or park.

I spent some time in my own city this summer too, even though it was unbelievably hot and everyone was looking for a way to cool down.

I'd just (sort of) gotten a routine of soccer and babysitting down since getting home from Vancouver. Then I found myself on a plane headed to San Diego to play in one of the biggest soccer showcases on the west coast. Not too much relaxing thins summer!

This summer I started volunteering at the Seattle Aquarium. It's been an amazing experience educating people about the creatures of the Puget Sound. Every time I go there I'm reminded of how lucky I am to live where I do. This photo is from the overnight celebration, when all of the teen volunteers got to spend a night at the aquarium.

The Seattle Aquarium throws an overnight party for all of their teen volunteers in the summer. I saw the sun set over the Puget Sound, got to play tag in the aquarium and then slept (only for three hours) next to the Northern Fur Seal tank.

What would summer be without a few soccer tournaments? I saw this pillow in a store up in Bellingham in between games. It's a pun AND an inspiring saying. Plus it's totally nautical.

I had to put this in here. This summer has found a resurgence of my Harry Potter obsession. Haven’t had time to reread any of the books, but my sister showed me a bunch of fan art and I’ve watched at least four of the movies. If you’re a muggle, google Viria right now. Then leave a comment when you see the drawing of George looking in a mirror. So. Sad. *Credit: http://viria13.deviantart.com/art/You-ll-never-be-alone-252742904

The second week of August was concert week for me. I saw Of Monsters and Men (absolutely fantastic show), George Ezra (his voice really does sound as beautiful live as on the radio) and a host of other bands at a music festival called Summer Camp. The lineup included Saint Motel, Glass Animals, Robert DeLong and Matt and Kim (those two are the coolest couple in music– Kim is the one dancing on the crowd).

The week before high school soccer tryouts (not technically the end of summer– but really the end of summer) my sister, mom and I went to Manzanita. It's a tiny town on the Oregon Coast with way more beach than town. A nice wind down before soccer craziness.

And now summer is coming to an end. The leaves are starting to yellow and the air's a little cooler. The sun is down by eight! And soon enough I'll be in school. If the teachers ever stop striking, that is... for now I'm just enjoying the few borrowed days of summer I have left.
